Thomastik Rondo cello strings have been a household name with violin makers for some time, as until recently these strings were only sold to violin makers. Now the strings are also available for the general public. Rondo strings are all-round strings with a somewhat higher string tension compared to Dominant strings. Thomastik has a nice set of strings in this price segment with Rondo cello strings. It is a matter of trying out for yourself which type of string suits your violin best. The specifications of Rondo cello strings are as follows:
- A string with carbon steel core and multi-alloy winding
- D string with carbon steel core and multi-alloy winding
- G string with wound carbon steel core and tungsten/chrome winding
- C string with braided carbon steel core and tungsten/chrome winding
Recently the RONDO Experience A-string has been added, which is a very vibrant string and offers an exceptional amount of sparkle and overtone richness compared to the regular A Rondo string. It reacts even faster to bowing impulses from the right hand and at the same time produces a clear, distinct sound with minimum effort from the left hand. Compared to the A Rondo, the A Rondo Experience is more sensitive to bow pressure and bowing speed, offering a higher capacity for modulation. Due to its forgiving character, the Rondo Experience maintains contact close to the bridge very reliably even when the bow pressure is insufficient. The string has 700g less string tension, but it is exceptionally powerful and creates a very compact sound despite a broad range of tonal colors, unlike other softer strings. However, unlike the standard A Rondo string, the sound density of the Experience string is lower. Even though it feels softer (than the standard string), it offers a nice resistance. Due to its even faster response the Thomastik Rondo Experience allows impulsive interpretations and new playing experiences as a result. Core: Carbon steel. Wound: Multialloy.
