The minus violin method was written by violinist Lenneke Willems from The Hague. She has more than 40 years of experience as a violin teacher, especially with young children. Her Mini Violin method, specially made for young violin players, is a 23 ring binder filled with 33 lessons in plastic sleeves. Owning your own book makes it complete for the toddler: 'I'm taking violin lessons, I have a violin and a book'.

Part 1 pays extensive attention to: the development of the left hand

• the stick position
• the development of the sense of rhythm
• the development of hearing
• the notation

In Mini Violin part 2, extensive attention is paid to:

• learning new notes and time signatures
• the regional technique
• clapping and stroking rhythm exercises
• extending the left hand technique
• the low second finger
• play by heart

Many of the songs that were only sung in part 1 are now actually played. The coloring pages also return in part 2 to promote music reading.

Each lesson is accompanied by a parent page (see example photo).

For teachers who are introduced to Mini Violin for the first time and want to start working with it, there is a special manual that gives them a lot of support. It explains the idea behind the method, what preparation is needed before the lessons can start, what is expected of the children and the parents and many useful tips. In addition, each lesson has a description of the structure of that lesson.
